Safeguarding
Safeguarding our children is the most important aspect of our provision.
Safeguarding includes:
- Protecting children from maltreatment
- Preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development
- Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
- Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes
(Taken from Working Together to Safeguard Children – the national guidance)
All of our staff and governors are trained in how to identify and respond to safeguarding concerns. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) holds responsibility for dealing with
child protection issues, providing advice and support to other staff, liaising with the local authority, and working with other agencies.
One member of our Governing Body is appointed as Safeguarding Governor to ensure all relevant policies and practices are implemented effectively. Our Safeguarding Governor visits school regularly to talk with children and staff and to monitor our provision. Each year our Safeguarding Governor completes a detailed audit of safeguarding with the DSL identifying and prioritising improvements where necessary.

One of our Vision and Values Groups is our 'Safeguarding Guardians'. This group includes one children from each class who has volunteered to work with the Headteacher and Safeguarding Governor to help make our school a safe and caring place.
Our Safeguarding Guardians' aims are:
- Shining a light on worries
- Highlighting safe choices
- Pointing the way to safety
- Keeping a lookout for each other
Our DSL is our Headteacher, Miss Maria Ackland. In her absence our Deputy DSLs can fulfil the DSL responsibilities. Our Deputy DSLs are Mr Isaac Haskell, Mrs Emma Hibberd and Mrs Jenni Pridgeon. Anyone who wishes to share a concern with our DSL can request a confidential conversation by emailing adminoffice@horndean-jun.hants. sch.uk
